The Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville is acclaimed as great entertainment. The Ren-Faire offers eight weekends of fun October 11 - November 30, 2008.
Ren-Faires become more popular every year. The outdoor events, set in Medieval times, are part festival, part fantasy and part live theater. Actors perform on stage and on the grounds. Characters dressed in the outfits of the Renaissance era stroll the lanes of the recreated 16th century village and interact with the festival guests, who have the opportunity to get in character and play act a nobleman, fool, peasant, lady, wench or faerie. The Texas Renaissance Festival runs for eight weekends, from October 11 through November 30, 2008. Texas Renaissance Festival is one of the most acclaimed and largest Ren-Faires in the United States. Attendance in 2007 was estimated at over 373,000 visitors. Patrons immerse themselves into the spirit of the event, by dressing in historic outfits or fantasy costumes. The Queen herself strolls the lanes along with the Noble Ladies of Her Royal Court. There are over 3,000 costumed characters at the Texas Renaissance Festival, dedicated to producing a live reenactment of the medieval era. Entertainment at the Texas Renaissance FestivalA day at the Renaissance Festival is a full day of live entertainment, including shows on 14 stages, 340 arts and crafts shops, over 50 food shops, dozens of rides and games and jousting knights four times a day. At the end of a day of festivities, a fireworks show lights up she sky. Acts at this years festival include the humorous Washing Well Wenches, The Hanlon Lees Action Theatre, The Other Brothers, Sound & Fury, Shakes-pear at The Castle Theater, Arsene, Bird of Prey, Cast in Bronze, The Sturdy Beggars, Ded Bob, Art of Defense, Iris and Rose -Wild and Thorny, Gypsy Dance Theatre, Tartanic, Shunyata Bellydance and Christoph. DemonstrationsThe festival features fine artisans and craftspeople, who offer the fascinating educational opportunity to observe the arts of a past era. Back in the day before people ran out to the corner store, they had to make their own utensils and weapons. At a market in the medieval era, craftspeople would often trade their hand crafted goods, as each artisan had a unique specialty. Artists demonstrate 16th century technologies, including glassblowing, blacksmithing, minting gold and silver, metal forging, broom making, sword play and printing on a 1400's Gutenburg-style printing press.
